At Home Mental Healthcare

At Ishmail & Associates, with almost 20 years of experience working within the fields of mental health and addiction, we have the capabilities and capacity to offer highly specialised, exclusive treatment in the heart of central London. We also have an ever-expanding network of highly-skilled, specialised team members, hand-picked treatment facilities and hospitals all around the world. And while treatment for many of our clients involves them attending treatment centres, we are also able to offer the option of at home mental healthcare, too.

Is at home mental healthcare right for me?

It can be a difficult decision to make; is at home mental health care right for me or should I opt for inpatient treatment? Everyone is different – that is a core belief at Ishmail & Associates – and you can rest assured you will not be required to make this decision by yourself.

As part of our service to you, you will receive an initial assessment. During this, we will talk to you about your needs and desires for your treatment, and come to a decision together about whether you would be better suited to at home or inpatient mental health care. There is no one-size-fits-all approach when it comes to bettering your physical and mental wellbeing. So, while home is a place of comfort for many, offering a tranquil and ideal setting for healing and recovery, for many others it simply may not be an appropriate environment for treatment. Whichever route you choose, we will make sure you receive the highest quality of care and continuously review your plan to ensure you are on the right track to recovery.

Many elements are taken into consideration when deciding whether or not at home care is right for you. Some of the factors we take into consideration include:

  • You or your relative’s preference for at home care vs psychiatric hospital – for example, if you live with parents, a partner or children, there will be multiple parties to consider and it will not be simply down to your preference or safety
  • The severity of your symptoms and potential consequences – we take into account any possible risks involved in offering you at home care, both to you and the person delivering the care. Following NICE guidelines, we will support you with an onward referral whenever we believe that at home mental healthcare isn’t suitable, and/or level of risk is too high
  • Any previous mental illness you have experienced and the risks these may pose in at home care
  • How well you are currently responding to any treatment you are undergoing, and the rate at which your mental illness is changing
  • Practicalities – for example, if there is physically enough space for an additional person to live in your home, and how it will affect the dynamic of the existing household
  • Your financial ability to cover the cost of at home treatment

Benefits of at home mental healthcare

At home mental healthcare is preferable for many clients who find adapting to new environments particularly difficult. Home is a safe space for many people, and for those who live with loved ones providing invaluable support to them, separation may cause further problems that can be easily avoided with at home care.

We are able to source round-the-clock support for clients who need 24 hour care – for example, many people find night times particularly difficult and need additional care at this time of day. We can, however, also cater to those who would rather have just day or just night support, too, with 12-hour care slots available.

For clients looking for accountability on their road to recovery from alcohol or drug addiction, we are able to provide sober companions, allowing them to continue living their life without the upheaval of attending a treatment centre.

At home mental health care offers you the opportunity to learn how to manage and cope with your mental health condition in your own home, making the transition to life after treatment much more accessible. The care you receive at home will be of exactly the same value and quality to that of the kind you might receive in a psychiatric hospital, with a dedicated team or professionals on hand to assess, develop and support you on your journey to recovery.
With this type of care you can continue with your regular, day-to-day life, whether that involves working or caring for children, meaning minimal disruption to your life.
